Caring for your rig after mudding in Florida

A little mud

If you are lucky enough to spend the weekend running your 4×4 rig through the mud hole, you should remember some simple steps to keep your truck running strong.

After getting home the last thing you want to do is clean up and service your rig, but you are wise to do so. Lubrication is key to keeping your Jeep or truck running right.  By simply pulling your fill plugs (most are on the diff cover) you can tell if your differentials have taken water in. The tell tale signs are a milkshake colored fluid and an over full fluid level. If your lucky and you don’t see these signs, just put your fill plugs back in and you should be good to go. But if you find the signs of taking on water then you must change the gear lube immediatly or you will have rusted internal components. Keep in mind that when water gets in so does sand.

A few simple steps will keep you enjoying your rig for many more weekends to come. Join us again next time where we will share how to prevent taking on water in the first place. Happy muddin’!
